- Microsoft Works for the Macintosh, versions 4.0, 4.0a, 4.0b |
SYMPTOMS
When you insert a token (page number, document title, time, or date) into a Word Processor document, print preview may show a box around the token, and Works will print the box as seen in print preview. The box may also show on the screen in the document.
This problem will occur if Show Field Names option is selected. (To locate this option, choose Database Merge Options from the Format menu.) This problem may occur even if there are no merged fields in the Word Processor document.
RESOLUTION
From the Format menu, choose Database Merge Options, and select the Show Field Data option to prevent the boxes from printing. If there are no merge fields in the document, do the following:
- Open an existing database file and return to the Word Processor.
- At the very top of the document, insert a field by choosing Database Field from the Insert menu.
- From the Format menu, choose Database Merge Options, and choose Show Field Data.
- Delete the field that was inserted in step 2.
The boxes around the fields should not be visible when printed or previewed.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works for Macintosh, versions 4.0, 4.0a, 4.0b. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
