GP Fault Using Show in Object Browser After Removing Source

Q126813

kbprg

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project for Windows, version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, if you remove a source project from a consolidated project, if you open the project that you removed, and you view a procedure in this project using the Object Browser dialog box, you may receive a general protection (GP) fault.

CAUSE

This behavior only occurs if you display the procedure in the Module Editor view while the project is included in the consolidated project, and you then remove the project from the consolidated project. When you open the project that you removed, the procedures available in this project are listed when you display the Object Browser from the consolidated project. If you select the procedure that you displayed while the project that contains this procedure was still part of the consolidated project, you receive a GP fault when you choose Show in the Object Browser dialog box.

This problem occurs because the window that was used to display the procedure in the consolidated project no longer exists when you remove the source project that contains this procedure. However, this window can be incorrectly called to display the procedure again under the conditions described above.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem when you remove a source project from the consolidated project, if you open the removed project, use the Macros dialog box to display procedures in the removed source project instead of using the Object Browser.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

NOTE: This problem does not occur in Microsoft Project for the Macintosh version 4.0.
