- Microsoft Automap Road Atlas for MS-DOS, version 2.02, 2.04, 2.06, and 3.0

SUMMARY

Road Atlas for MS-DOS provides a valuable memory troubleshooting tool. The information can be accessed from the Help menu by choosing the About command. The values listed at the bottom of the screen, and to the right of the Memory heading, are useful for troubleshooting memory issues that adversely affect product performance.

The report is divided into four parts:

Memory: <1>K + <2>K + <3>K + <4>K EMS

where:

1 is free memory reported by MS-DOS.

2 is the amount of memory taken by the Road Atlas databases.

3 is the amount of memory in the Road Atlas memory pool. The value is reported in blocks of 3K.

4 is the amount of Expanded Memory Specification (EMS) used by Road Atlas (maximum value of 3200K).

MORE INFORMATION

When you interpret the Memory report, the most useful value is the amount of memory in the Road Atlas memory pool. If this value is below 60K, Road Atlas runs very slowly and you may receive out of memory messages or Stack Overflow errors.

Program functionality will be limited if the value is below 30K. For example, printing enhanced maps may fail and you may receive out of memory errors. The error messages change with the version of Road Atlas for MS-DOS. For example, earlier versions produce a Stack Overflow error; however, Road Atlas for DOS version 3.02 displays an Out Of Memory message.

Evaluate the installed terminate-and-stay-resident (TSR) programs and remove unnecessary TSRs from the system. Configure the system to allow the maximum amount of free Extended Memory (XMS).
