Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q125639

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0

SYMPTOMS

You cannot use the shortcut keys listed below to enter data into a Data Form.

Shortcut Should enter the following in the cell
   ---------------------------------------------------------

   CONTROL+; The current date
   CONTROL+SHIFT+; The current time
CONTROL+SHIFT+" The text of the cell above

When you use these shortcut keys to enter data in fields in a from, the fields will remain blank in the database range when the data is written to the worksheet.

WORKAROUND

After you use CTRL+; or CTRL+SHIFT+; to enter the data, edit the field by adding a character and then deleting the just-added character. This procedure will force the data to be written to the worksheet.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh version 5.0a.
