MXL5: Incorrect Cell Patterns Printing to QuickDraw GX Printer

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q125504

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you print a worksheet that contains cells formatted with different patterns, incorrect patterns may be printed if you have QuickDraw GX installed on your Apple Macintosh.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you are using a QuickDraw GX printer driver, and you format adjacent cells with different combinations of vertical and diagonal line patterns. For example, if you format a cell with the vertical line pattern, and you format the cell directly below this cell with the diagonal line pattern (from upper left to lower right) both the cells are printed with the diagonal line pattern of the lower cell.

Note that the patterns appear correctly in print preview.

WORKAROUNDS

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Format the adjacent cells that contain a different cell pattern

with a different color. For example, format one of the cells that
contains a different pattern with light yellow. Light colors are
printed as white on a non-color printer.

Method 2: Disable QuickDraw GX when you use a QuickDraw printer. To disable

QuickDraw GX, remove the QuickDraw GX file from the Extensions
          Folder, and restart your computer.
