SYMPTOMS

The same document may print lighter in landscape orientation than in portrait on the built-in printer in the Canon Notejet laptop computer.

RESOLUTION

To correct the problem, change the Graphic Density setting to High in the Canon Built-In Printer configuration program, using the following steps:

  1. Make sure there is a piece of paper inserted into the printer on the front of the laptop.

    NOTE: The following steps will result in an error message if there is no paper in the printer.
  2. If you are using Windows 3.0, open the Canon group in the Program Manager. If you are using Windows 95, click Start, point to Programs, and then click Canon.
  3. Double-click the Built-In Printer icon.

    NOTE: If the Canon group or the Built-in Printer icon has been removed, search for and run the file it references, BNPRSET.EXE, in the Windows 3.0 File Manager. If you are using Windows 95, you can search for the BNPRSET.EXE file;
    1. Click Start, point to Find, then click on Files Or Folders.
    2. Type the filename in the Named box. When the file is found, double-click the icon.
  4. Click Settings.
  5. In the Graphic Density section, click High.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Close to close the printer dialog box.

The document will now print darker in landscape orientation.

MORE INFORMATION

Because the text is rotated 90 degrees, it is now considered a graphic for printing. Therefore, with the Graphic Density option set to normal, the text is printed light.

This problem occurs with the Canon Notejet printer driver version 1.11. The problem may also occur with other printer drivers, including the Canon BJ- 10E and the BJ-130E drivers.
