BUG: CL.DEF Not Copied from CD Causes LINK Fatal Error L1092

1.50 WINDOWS kbsetup kbbuglist --------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Visual C++ for Windows, version 1.5 --------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== You receive the following LINK error when building a QuickWin application: LINK : fatal error L1092: cannot open module-definition file - ..\MSVC\BIN\CL.DEF CAUSE ===== When performing a minimal installation from the Visual C++ version 1.50 CD, the setup program doesn't copy the CL.DEF file to the \MSVC\BIN directory on the hard disk. RESOLUTION ========== Copy the CL.DEF file manually from the CD to the \MSVC\BIN directory on the hard disk from the \MSVC\BIN directory on the CD. STATUS ====== Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in Visual C++ version 1.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. MORE INFORMATION ================ After a minimal installation, Visual C inserts the full path to the CL.DEF file into the project's makefile when creating a new QuickWin project or scanning a project's dependencies.
