PRJ: Entering Percent Complete Recalculates Project |
Q120383
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project for Windows, version 4.0
- Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, version 4.0
SYMPTOMS
Your project is recalculated when you enter a value in the Percent Complete box for an unstarted task, even though you set the calculation option to Manual.
MORE INFORMATION
When a percent complete is applied to a task, the task's Start date is copied and placed into the Actual Start date. If a schedule recalculation is not performed, the task's start date may be incorrect which would also cause the task's Actual Start date to be incorrect. Therefore, a recalculation is performed when a percent complete is applied to a previously unstarted task so that the Actual Start date will be correct.
Steps to Reproduce Behavior
- From the Tools menu, choose Options, and then select the Calculation tab.
- In the Calculation box, select the Manual option button, then choose OK.
- Enter three tasks in the project, and link two of them in a finish- to-start relationship. Note that the start and finish dates for the linked tasks do not change.
- Select the task that is not linked, and then choose Task Information from the Insert menu.
- Select the General tab, and enter a value (for example, 50%) in the Percent Complete box, and then choose OK. Note that the start and finish dates for the linked tasks are recalculated.
