Booting a PowerMacintosh from the System CD

Q120099

SUMMARY

Apple PowerMacintosh computers that includes a CD-ROM drive do not ship with a Macintosh system software disk (startup disk). Instead, they includes a CD-ROM that contains the Macintosh system software. The steps required to boot the computer from a CD are different from those required when booting from a disk.

MORE INFORMATION

There are two versions of the System CD, each with a slightly different procedure for bootup. Use the appropriate steps below to boot your PowerMacintosh from the System CD.

If you have System CD version 1.0:

Insert the CD at startup.

If you have System CD version 2.0:

With the CD inserted in the drive, start the machine while holding down the C key on the keyboard.

NOTE: If you use the COMMAND+OPTION+SHIFT+DELETE key combination, which was required to boot a Centris from a CD-ROM, it disables the drivers that mount the hard disk drive, making the hard disk drive inaccessible.
