PRB: Copy and Paste Value from Field Results in Field Name

SYMPTOMS


Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

On page 75 of the Microsoft Access "User's Guide," version 2.0, in the "Selecting Data" section, the table contains, in part:

   To                                      Do this
   -----------------------------------------------------------------
   Select the entire contents of a field   In a datasheet, click the
                                           left edge of the field.

In the online Help topic "Selecting Fields and Records," the table states that to select a single cell, you should:

   Click inside the left edge of the cell.

These instructions are incorrect. RESOLUTION


The table on page 75 of the "User's Guide" should contain, in part:

The online Help topic "Selecting Fields and Records" should state that to select a single cell, you should:

   Click inside the cell and drag across the data.

STATUS

This behavior no longer occurs in Microsoft Access for Windows 95 version 7.0.

If you copy the value of a field while in Datasheet view by clicking the left edge of the field (as the instructions indicate) and then paste the value into the Find dialog box, the field name is pasted along with the value, although you will only see the value. To select only the value in the field, click inside the value and then drag to select the data.
