SYMPTOMS

If an envelope is created in Works 3.x using a Works 2.x Word Processor document with a Works 2.x database that contains only field names and no records, choosing the Print button on the toolbar may cause the following message to appear:

Convert old Works mailing labels to new Works for Windows 3.0 format? You tried to print or preview a Works for Windows 2.0 or Works for DOS mailing labels document, but Works must convert it to Works for Windows 3.0 format before continuing. Choose Yes to convert the document, or No to cancel.

If No is selected, the following error message will occur:

No Records in Database

OK must be selected to clear the error dialog box. However, the error message will continue to reappear until the Word Processor document is saved and closed. To use that document again, you must exit and reopen Works.

RESOLUTION

Add records to the database.

-or-

Choose Yes when asked to convert the document to a Works 3.x format.

-or-

From the File menu, choose Print.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Situation

  1. Open Works 2.x and create a blank Database file with some fields.
  2. Create a Word Processor file and insert fields from the blank database.
  3. Save the Word Processor and the Database files and exit Works 2.x.
  4. Open the Database and Word Processor files in Works 3.x.
  5. In the Word Processor module, choose Envelopes/Labels from the Tools menu, and create an envelope using fields from the blank Works 2.x database.
  6. From the toolbar, select the Print button.
  7. Choose No to the message asking to convert old Works mailing labels to new Works for Windows 3.0 format.
  8. Choose OK to clear the "No Records in Database" error message.

Notice that the error message mentioned in step 8 reappears after choosing OK, until the Word Processor document is closed, even if the Works program is minimized. The error will even occur if another application is opened in front of Works 3.x.
