FIX: Long Macros Used in Old .RC Files Cause GP Faults |

1.00 1.50 WINDOWS kbtool kbbuglist ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - The App Studio, included with: - Microsoft Visual C++ for Windows, versions 1.0 and 1.5 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== Using macros in resource script files may cause App Studio to generate the following error message when it attempts to load the .RC file: APP STUDIO caused a General Protection Fault in module RCDLL.DLL at 0001:3016 CAUSE ===== App Studio uses an internal buffer to store symbol information. This buffer is 250 bytes long. When a macro is longer than 250 characters, a general protection fault (GPF) is generated. Applications generated using Visual C++ do not cause this behavior unless the user manually edits the .RC file and creates a macro large enough to cause the problem. RESOLUTION ========== To correct this problem, replace the macro name with its definition. STATUS ====== Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. This is not a problem in Visual C++, 32-bit Edition.
