When you are using the Windows for Workgroups version 3.11 NWLINK.386 file to connect to a network that uses a Cisco router, you may receive an error message or have difficulty communicating across a Novell or DECnet network using the "IPX/SPX Compatible Transport with NetBIOS" option. To correct these problems, Microsoft has made an updated NWLINK.386 file available in Application Note WG1027: Updated NWLINK.386 Allows Routing Across Cisco Routers. These problems occur when NWLINK.386 does not correctly handle certain Cisco router addresses that begin with the letter A. Any address with the high-order bit set on an end or intermediate system results in NWNBlink truncating the routing address, which causes the network connection to fail.
