Excel: Cancel and Enter Boxes on Formula Bar Are Black

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q113695

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 3.0, 3.0a, 4.0, 4.0a

SYMPTOMS

The cancel and enter boxes in the formula bar appear two dimensional and are black (rather than three dimensional and red and green with a gray background).

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if you change the default font size in Microsoft Excel.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Excel, it is possible to change the default font by adding the following line to the [Microsoft Excel] section of the EXCEL4.INI (EXCEL.INI for version 3.0):

   Font=<font name>, <font size>

If the specified is greater than 10, the cancel and enter boxes in the formula bar will appear black and two dimensional when you edit information in a cell. NOTE: In Microsoft Excel versions 3.0, the cancel and enter boxes are always black, but the three-dimensional aspect of these buttons will be altered, making them appear two dimensional.

For more information about how changing the Font= setting affects the Microsoft Excel, query on the following words in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

   truetype and font and excel.ini or excel4.ini
