The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 3.0 3.0a 4.0 - Microsoft Project for Macintosh, version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, if you type information in a field in a table but do not press ENTER, and you then use the mouse to scroll down in the project so that the information you typed is not visible, and you click on a field, the screen scrolls back up to display the field in which you typed information, and a field other than the field you clicked is selected.

Note this also occurs when you use the mouse to scroll the project left or right.

This behavior does not occur with a record that has already been entered, or with records that exist below the field in which you type information.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

To avoid selecting a field other than the field you click the mouse in, always press ENTER after typing in a field to record the information.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. In a new project, select the name field in row 1, and type “Task1” (without the quotation marks) but do not press ENTER.
  2. Click the mouse on the down arrow on the vertical scroll bar to scroll down in the project.
  3. Click the Name field in row 35.

The display scrolls up to display row 1, and a Name field in a row other than row 35 is selected.
