The in this article applies to: |
- Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 3.0, 3.0a - Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0 |
SYMPTOMS
If you copy data from Microsoft Project and try to link the data into Word 6.0 for Windows, the Paste Link option in Word will be unavailable (dimmed) when you choose Paste Special from the Edit menu.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, you must upgrade to Word for Windows to version 6.0a.
MORE INFORMATION
If you copy information from Microsoft Word 6.0 or 6.0a to Microsoft Project 3.0 or 3.0a, the Paste Link command will be unavailable. You can manually create a Paste Link, however, by doing the following:
For this example, assume the Microsoft Word document is named TEST.DOC and is located in the WINWORD directory of the C drive (C:.DOC). Also assume the information from Microsoft Word is being paste linked into a task Name field with task Unique ID 1.
- In Microsoft Word, highlight the text you wish to copy.
- From the Edit menu, select Bookmark.
- Type a name such as “DDELink” (without quotation marks) and choose the Add button.
- In Microsoft Project, select the cell(s) where you want the information linked.
Note: The task(s) must already exist.
- From the File menu, select Links.
- From the Link Type drop-down list, select DDE Links.
- Choose the New button.
- In the From field, type “WINWORD|C:.DOC!DDELink” (without quotation marks).
- In the To field, type “T(1,Name)” (without quotation marks).
- Choose OK.
For more information about creating DDE links, refer to the Microsoft Project file DDEINFO.WRI.
