SUMMARY

This step-by-step article describes how to back up and how to restore an SNA Server and Host Integration Server 2000 configuration file.

To make sure that you can recover your configuration correctly, you must first back up your SNA Server or Host Integration Server 2000 configuration file (Com.cfg). Note the following about this important file:

  • This file is located on your SNA Server or Host Integration Server 2000 primary configuration server.
  • This file is also located on any SNA Server computers or on any Host Integration Server 2000 backup configuration servers.
  • The Com.cfg file is located in the following folder and is shared to network users as SERVER NAME\Comcfg\Com.cfg:

    SNAROOT\System\Config

  • This file contains important configuration information for the SNA Server computer or for the Host Integration Server 2000 computer, including the following:
    • The SNA Server server computers or the Host Integration Server 2000 server computers that are in the domain
    • SNA connections that the servers own
    • 3270 and APPC logical units (LUs) that are configured
    • LU pools

How to back up the Com.cfg file

To back up the Com.cfg file, follow these steps in SNA Manager:

  1. On the File menu, click Backup Configuration.
  2. Type the name of the backup configuration file, and then select the location where you want the backup configuration file saved.
  3. When you have the file name and the location that you want, click Save.

How to restore the Com.cfg file

To restore the Com.cfg file, follow these steps in SNA Manager:

  1. On the File menu, click Restore Configuration.
  2. Select the path and the file name that you want to restore, and then click Open.

Note This file replaces the Com.cfg in the SNAROOT\System\Config folder.back to the top
