The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, if you create multiple drawing objects on a worksheet and group them, and you then create an embedded chart object, the chart becomes part of the group when you close and reopen the file that contains the objects. This problem occurs whether you group the drawing objects before or after you create the embedded chart.

WORKAROUND

To avoid the above problem, do either of the following:

  • Create the embedded chart before you create the last of the drawing objects that you are going to group on a worksheet. If you create any one of the drawing objects that you are going to group together AFTER the embedded chart object, the above problem does not occur. -or-
  • If an embedded chart on your worksheet has become grouped with drawing objects on your worksheet because of this problem, do the following:

    1. Select the group that contains the embedded chart object. From the

Drawing toolbar, select the Ungroup Objects button.

    2. From the Drawing toolbar, select the Drawing Selection button. Drag

on the worksheet to select the objects that you want to group.

    3. From the Drawing toolbar, select the Group Objects button to group

the selected objects. With the group selected, choose Cut from the
          Edit menu.

    4. From the File menu, choose Close, and choose Yes to save changes in

          your document.

    5. From the File menu, choose Open, and open the file you closed in

step 4. From the Edit menu choose Paste. Drag the grouped object to
the original location on the worksheet.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0.
