SYMPTOMS
You may experience printer memory problems when trying to print a spreadsheet with gridlines, even if you were able to print them using Works 2.0. This is because printing gridlines in a Works 3.0, 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a for Windows spreadsheet creates a larger print job than printing in Works version 2.0.
You may also experience problems printing gridlines in landscape mode with UNIDRV drivers. For example, if you install the Hewlett-Packard (HP) HPPCL5A.DRV driver (non-UNIDRV), the output file is much smaller because the graph lines are encoded as plot-lines rather than bitmaps.
RESOLUTION
You may be able to resolve the problem by reducing the printer resolution. If this doesn't work, increase the printer's memory to successfully print all of the gridlines.

Works 3.0 and later print gridlines as graphics instead of text characters, like Works 2.0. Graphic characters take more memory than text characters, so the print job for Works 3.0 and later will be larger.
This change was necessary for some of the new formatting features in Works 3.0 and later. Text gridlines show through all images placed on top of them, while graphic gridlines can be hidden. This is important as the example below illustrates.
Example
If you format a range of cells with a white pattern and no borders, the text gridlines will show through the solid white pattern. Changing the gridlines to graphics allows gridlines to print in other parts of the spreadsheet while hiding them in the formatted range of cells.
