SYMPTOMS
When you log into a LAN Manager domain under Windows (using CSD00.074), the WINSCRIPT program terminates before the script is completely executed. This is unacceptable if Windows initialization depends on the logon script's completion, as it does when loading Windows from a network drive.
CAUSE
LMSCRIPT.EXE creates a synchronization file (LMSCRIPT.$$$) that signals the end of the logon script's execution. In normal operation, WINSCRIPT finds this file, deletes it and terminates. But the CSD00.074 LMSCRIPT.EXE creates LMSCRIPT.$$$ as a READONLY file--which cannot be deleted. When you log on again, WINSCRIPT finds LMSCRIPT.$$$ and terminates without waiting for the logon process to complete.
WORKAROUND
Use CSD00.074 only if you are experiencing the sharing violation error it was designed to fix.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in LAN Manager version 2.2b. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
