GPF Editing WordPerfect 6.0 File Saved in WinWord 2.0b Format |
Q111365
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a
SYMPTOMS
In Word 6.0 for Windows, if you edit a Word 2.x for Windows document that you originally exported from WordPerfect 6.0 (in Word 2.x file format), a general protection (GP) fault may occur. This usually happens when you delete text using the BACKSPACE key.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the original WordPerfect 6.0 for Windows document contains one or more QuickMarks (a new feature of WordPerfect 6.0). When you save such a document from WordPerfect 6.0 for Windows in Word 2.0b for Windows format, WordPerfect generates an invalid Word document that causes the GP fault described above.
STATUS
Microsoft has reported this problem to WordPerfect Corporation.
WORKAROUNDS
Method 1: Remove all the QuickMarks from your WordPerfect document before you save it in Word for Windows 2.0b format.
Method 2: Save the document in one of the following three file formats in WordPerfect:
- Word for Windows 2.0
- Word for Windows 2.0a
- RTF (Rich Text Format)
