SYMPTOMS
In Word 6.0 for Windows, defining a style by example while an object linking and embedding (OLE) object is selected causes unusual results in the document, including the failure of the style redefinition.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows version 6.0. This problem was corrected in Word for Windows version 6.0a and in Word version 6.0 for the Macintosh.

Results may include the object appearing "broken" or showing as a blank box. Word gets caught in-between updating the OLE object and the focus returning to Word. Most menu items are not available. Attempts to delete the object or use an unavailable menu or toolbar button may result in the following message on the status bar:
This command is not available because there is a memory or disk problem.
You cannot save the document through the File menu. When you close the document and respond "Yes" to the prompt to save it, the document still does not get saved. If you try to save the document in a non-OLE 2.0 format (for example, Word 2.0 for Windows, or Windows Write), you receive the "Cannot Write to File" error message.
