SYMPTOMS

Editing a previously created glossary entry may generate the error message “That name is already defined.”

CAUSE

This error occurs if you attempt to redefine a glossary entry in the Glossary dialog box by typing the original glossary name in the Name box and then choosing the Define button.

RESOLUTION

To edit a glossary entry:

  1. Select the redefined text or graphic that will replace the existing glossary entry. (If you want to store the paragraph formatting with the text and graphic, include the paragraph mark(s) in the selection.)
  2. From the Edit menu, choose Glossary.
  3. Select the name of the original glossary entry.
  4. Choose the Define button.

The text or graphic selected in the document replaces the existing entry and is shown at the bottom of the Glossary dialog box.

MORE INFORMATION

On page 256 of the user s guide, step 5 of the section “To Edit a Glossary Entry”, incorrectly states that a glossary entry can be edited by typing or selecting the name of the original glossary entry. Step 5 reads:

Select or type the name of the original glossary entry.

This may result in the error message mentioned above.
