SUMMARY
Windows NT can be configured to print directly to a specified file without prompting for a filename. You can accomplish this by adding a value to the Registry. Once you add the value, you can configure an additional port from Print Manager.
To add the value, use the following procedure:
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.
Start Registry Editor and locate the following Registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft \Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Ports- From the Edit menu, choose Add Value. In the Value Name field type the full path and filename you would like to print to (c:\print2.fil for example). Select REG_SZ for the data type. Leave the String field Blank.
- Save your changes and exit Registry Editor.
- Exit Windows NT and restart your computer.
- Start Print Manager and select the correct printer.
- Choose Properties from the Printer menu.
- From Print To, select the filename you specified in Step 2.
