SYMPTOMS

You may receive the following error message when you are working with a custom dialog box:

Word Basic Err=100. Syntax Error

CAUSE

In the versions of Word listed in the beginning of this article, a custom dialog defined with

horizontal and vertical positions
width and height definitions

requires a title string defined for the dialog box. The dialog box does not default to a "Microsoft Word" title. This is contrary to the "Microsoft Word Developer's Kit" and the WordBasic online help. Without the title string, a WordBasic syntax error is displayed. This is the case only when width and height of the dialog box are defined.

To eliminate the syntax error, add a text string for the title of the dialog box. The following macro is correct and does not produce an error message.
