PUB2: Find File Will Not Open File from Directory
Q109197
------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher version 2.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== Although you can use the Find File option in Publisher version 2.0 to find a file that has been saved to a directory named with an international (extended) character, Publisher 2.0 will not open the file. Instead, Publisher will generate the following error message when you try to open that file: Not a valid filename or disk not in drive. The filename you typed, <drive>:\<path>\<filename>, is not valid, or the disk is not in the drive. Check to make sure that you typed the path, filename, and extension correctly and that the floppy disk is inserted correctly and then try again. NOTE: The international character will be remapped in the error message to a different character. STATUS ====== Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher version 2.0. This problem was corrected in Publisher version 2.0a. STEPS TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM ========================== 1. With File Manager, create a directory that contains an international (extended) character in the directory name. 2. Create a Publisher file and save that file to the newly created directory. 3. Close the Publisher file. 4. From the File menu in Publisher, choose Find File and select the Find This File option. In the dialog box, type the name of the file that you created in Step 2, above. 5. After the search is complete, your file will be listed in the Files Found list. 6. Select the file and choose Open File. 7. Publisher will generate the error message, as noted above.
