PUB2x: PageWizard Could Not Run WordArt Program

Q109073

-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Publisher, version 2.0
 - Special Occasions Design Pack
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

If you run a PageWizard that uses WordArt to insert text (such as the
Flyer or Newsletter PageWizard) and enter a quotation mark ("), you
receive the following error:

   Zikes!
   <Wizard Name> Wizard could not run the WordArt program, and will be
   unable to add the WordArt text it needs to.

After choosing OK, the PageWizard continues, but a blank WordArt
object is displayed.

RESOLUTION
==========

When you run a PageWizard, do not enter quotation marks by pressing the
quotation mark (") key on your keyboard. Use extended characters instead,
which can be used without causing an error. For example, the extended
characters for curly quotation marks (that is, ALT+0147 and ALT+0148) can
be used. The PageWizard runs successfully with these characters.

Alternatively you can run the PageWizard and not type the quotation marks.
Once the PageWizard completes, double-click the WordArt object and add
them in yourself.

MORE INFORMATION
================

Quotation marks are the only characters that cause errors in PageWizards.
This is not related to having SmartQuotes enabled.

The PageWizards that exhibit this error are:

 - Business Card and Paper
 - Envelope
 - Flyer
 - Greeting Card and Invitation
 - Newletter
 - Paper Aeroplane
 - Tape Cassette Cover
 - Ad
 - Fancy First Letter
 - Logo Creator Plus
 - Newletter Banner

In addition, the Special Occasions Card that ships with the Special
Occasions Design Pack exhibits the same characteristics.

This problem has been fixed in Publisher 2.00a.
