XL5: GP Fault with Custom Toolbar with the Name "Charts" |
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0
SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel, if you create a custom toolbar with the name Charts, you will receive a General Protection (GP) fault error message the next time you run Microsoft Excel.
CAUSE
In Microsoft Excel, some of the built-in toolbars appear when you choose certain commands. For example, the Chart toolbar appears when you create a chart. If you create a custom toolbar with the name Charts, this name conflicts with the Chart toolbar in the Excel5.xlb file, the Microsoft Excel toolbar file that loads your toolbars.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, do not create a custom toolbar with the name Charts. To run Microsoft Excel without receiving a GP fault when you have created a toolbar with the name Charts, do the following:
- In Windows File Manager, rename the Excel5.xlb file to BACKUP.XLB.
- Run Microsoft Excel. The toolbars will be restored to their default configurations.
