The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works for Windows, version 3.0 - Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

If you have a Works 2.0 spreadsheet or chart object embedded in a Word 6.0 document and Works 3.0 is installed, you may have difficulty resizing the objects. Either nothing happens, the object snaps back to the original size, or the resized object is exaggerated.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works version 3.0 for Windows. This problem was corrected in Works version 3.0a for Windows.

The behavior can be corrected as follows:

  1. Select the object that you’re having problems resizing.

  2. Press SHIFT+F9 on the keyboard. This will show the object’s description, which will look like one of the following:

    {EMBED MSWorksSpreadsheet} {EMBED MSWorks.Sheet.3} {EMBED MSWorksChart} {EMBED MSWorks.Chart.3}

  3. In front of the right brace (}), add “” (without the quotation marks) so that the description looks like:

    {EMBED MSWorks<entry> }

  4. Press SHIFT+F9 on the keyboard to return to the object view.

Repeat this procedure for all of the Works 2.0 objects in the document.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem is unique to Word 6.0. For example, Publisher 2.0 triggers the AutoConvert function as soon as the object is resized. Word 6.0 allows you the flexibility of not automatically converting an object, which causes the difficulty.
