When you use one of the reserved dot codes (for example, .G.) as part of normal text in your Word for MS-DOS document, Grammatik version 5.0 treats this text as a code and may incorrectly mark text as misspelled. Grammatik may also fail to check the grammar in the portion of a paragraph that follows the dot code.
For example, if your document contains the following text, Grammatik incorrectly flags “eReading” as a misspelled word due to the “.g.” text string:
…e.g., pansies, petunias, roses, daisies, etc. <paragraph mark>
Reading the chart…
Grammatik does not distinguish between dot codes, which are formatted as hidden text, and normal unhidden, text, with the same syntax as the dot codes. When Grammatik encounters a string that matches one of the reserved dot codes, it does not check the remainder of the paragraph. It resumes checking with the next paragraph.
In the above example, Grammatik ignores this portion of the text
.g., pansies, petunias, roses, daisies, etc. <paragraph mark>
and checks this portion of the text:
eReading the chart…
Use the following procedure to use Grammatik with files that contain reserved dot codes in the body of the document:
- Save the document in RTF file format in Word.
- Exit Word.
- Start Grammatik by typing “GMK” (without the quotation marks) at the MS-DOS command prompt.
- From the Preferences menu, choose Word Processor.
- Select the Rich Text Format option and then choose OK.
- Press I to select the Interactive Check option.
- Select the file you saved in RTF file format in step 1 above.
- After you check the file, you can reopen it in Word and convert it from RTF file format.
