SYMPTOMS

Video presentations in Presents version 1.4 on a MIPS R4000 computer return the message "Error in reading disk," the error code 047:000:000, and then fail completely.

During testing on RISC-based computers, error messages were received consistently whenever a presentation was run. In one test, Presents returned to its window after the first frame was displayed and generated an error message stating that the video presentation could not get a system timer and that it would have to be run manually.

CAUSE

On RISC-based computers, the application destroys the full-screen window used for presentations.

WORKAROUND

If you switch to VGA graphics, you do not receive the error message. The presentation is recorded in a much smaller VIDPRES.CPV file (168K versus 1800K) and plays back correctly.

This was tested under Windows 3.1 and Windows NT configured for VGA on x86-based computers. No error messages were generated.

RESOLUTION

To prevent these errors, upgrade to Presents version 1.5.
