Cannot Remap a TrueType Font Using Character Translation Table

SUMMARY
In Word for MS-DOS, you cannot remap TrueType fonts using a Character Translation Table (CTT). This happens, in part, as a side effect of the way Word interacts with the symbol set of a TrueType font.
WORKAROUND
To substitute a different character for a TrueType font, create a glossary entry, as described in the following instructions:
Insert the ASCII character code of the character you want to print. With NUM LOCK on, press ALT+NNN on the numeric keypad, where NNN is the ASCII character code. For example, to print ASCII character 185, press ALT+185.
Select the character and format it for the desired TrueType font.
From the Edit menu, choose Glossary.
In the Glossary Name box, type a short name for the glossary entry.
Note: If you want to assign a one- or two-key code to the glossary entry to use as a shortcut key, see the instructions on page 383 of “Using Microsoft Word.”
Choose the Define button.
To use the glossary entry, type the sort name you gave in step 4 above and press the F3 key or type the key code.
