The following information refers to the conversion of MS-DOS files to Microsoft Works for the Macintosh. The MS-DOS converters for Works recognize the following extensions, but may not recognize the creator code for the file:

Excel: XLS 1-2-3: WK1, WKS Multiplan SYLK: SLK PC Works 2.0: WPS, WKS, WDB RTF: RTF Word: DOC WordPerfect: WP, W50, W51
After the files have been translated using Apple File Exchange, it may be necessary to change the file extension so it will be read by Works. To do so:
- At the Finder level, select the filename.
- Add the appropriate extension preceded by a period. For example, FILENAME.DOC.
This should allow access to the file from within the Works 3.0 File Open dialog box.
