SYMPTOMS

You disable the Wireless Zero Configuration service by using the Wireless Zero Configuration API in Microsoft Windows CE 5.0. However, the Wireless Zero Configuration service may keep setting service set identifiers (SSIDs) that are not valid on the wireless network driver.

This problem occurs if an application sends an SSID to the wireless network driver after you disable the Wireless Zero Configuration service.

Note The SSIDs that are not valid are made up of 32 bytes of random characters.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

The SSID that is not valid is intended to instruct the wireless network driver not to connect to any access point. After you disable the Wireless Zero Configuration service, you expect that only one SSID that is not valid must be set on the wireless network driver.
