This article describes Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 support on computers that are running Windows Server 2008. This article also describes how to install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008.

In Windows Server 2008 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) and in later versions of Windows Server 2008, Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 is no longer included as a Server role. Additionally, you cannot install the release version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a Windows Server 2008-based computer.
However, you can install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a Windows Server 2008-based computer by using the Windows SharePoint Services SP1 slipstream release.
