APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You add a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 server to a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 organization. The OABGen server is running Exchange 2003. Then, you use a Japanese version of an Outlook client to view the properties of a recipient in an offline address list. In this scenario, you receive garbled characters in the dialog box of the Outlook client.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Exchange 2007 introduces new languages. The OABGen server cannot use these new languages in Exchange 2003 because of the code page mapping that the server uses. Therefore, some offline address book (OAB) templates are generated in the wrong code page.
