SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the online features in one of the products that are listed in the "Applies To" section, you may receive one of the following error messages:

  • Error message 1

    Server Error in '/' Application

  • Error message 2

    MathPlayer not installed.

  • Error message 3

    Your browser is set to reject cookies.

  • Error message 4
  • Error message 5

    Sorry the registration that you have provided is invalid.


CAUSE

This behavior may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer is not the default browser.
  • The Internet Explorer Web settings are incorrect.
  • A firewall or Internet Explorer is configured to reject cookies.
  • The MathPlayer plug-in is not installed.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use one or more of the following methods as appropriate for your situation.

Method 1: Configure Internet Explorer as the default browser

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Internet Explorer.
    • If you receive a message that prompts if you want Internet Explorer to be your default browser, click Yes.
    • If you do not receive the message, go to step 2.
  2. Click Start, and then click Set Program Access and Defaults.


Note The Set Program Access and Defaults option is available only in Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 1 (SP1) and in Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2).

  1. In Add or Remove Programs, click Custom, and then click the arrow to the right of Custom.
  2. Under Choose a default Web browser, click Internet Explorer, and then click OK.

Method 2: Reset the Internet Explorer Web settings

  1. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
  2. On the Programs tab, click Reset Web Settings, and then click OK.

Method 3: Configure Internet Explorer to allow cookies

  1. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
  2. On the Privacy tab, click Sites.
  3. Type *.microsoft.com in the Address of Web site box, and then click Allow.
  4. Type *.msn.com in the Address of Web site box, and then click Allow.
  5. Type *.passport.com in the Address of Web site box, and then click Allow.
  6. Click OK, and then click Advanced.
  7. If the Override automatic cookie handling check box is selected, click to clear the check box.
  8. Click OK two times.

Method 4: Install the MathPlayer plug-in

The MathPlayer plug-in is required to access Math Help Online. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and later versions of Internet Explorer use MathPlayer to display Web pages that have MathML language information.

  1. Obtain the latest version of MathPlayer. To do this, visit the following Design Science Web site: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support.   2. Download and install the latest version of MathPlayer.
