INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to copy Microsoft Streets and Trips or Microsoft MapPoint 2004 North American Maps to a network share so that users can install it over a network.

MORE INFORMATION

To copy Streets and Trips or MapPoint 2004 North American Maps to a network share, follow these steps.

Note The computer that you are using must have a CD drive.

  1. Put the Setup disc (Disc 1) in the CD drive, and then hold the SHIFT key down to prevent the Setup program from starting.
  2. Create a folder, and then share this folder out on the network.

For more information about how to create a shared folder, see Help in Microsoft Windows XP or Help and Support in Windows Vista. For example, create an empty folder that is named C:\Streets, and then share this folder on the network.
  3. If you are using Microsoft Windows XP or earlier versions, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

If you are using Windows Vista, click Start[GRAPHIC: Start button], type cmd in the Start Search box, and then click Cmd.exe in the Programs list.
  4. At the command prompt, use one of the following methods:
    • For Streets and Trips, type msiexec /a X:\streets\msmap\data.msi, and then press ENTER.
    • For MapPoint 2004 North American Maps, type msiexec /a X:\mappoint\msmap\data.msi, and then press ENTER.
Note In these examples, X is the CD drive letter.
  5. Follow the installation instructions. When you are prompted for the path of the Administrative installation, type the path of the shared folder. The path of the shared folder can be either the local path C:\streets or the network path \\Computer name\Streets, where Computer Name is the name of the computer on the network.
  6. After you complete the installation, use another computer on the network, and then locate the \\computer name\streets share that you created.
  7. Start the network installation.

To start the network installation in Streets and Trips, double-click the Setup_ST.exe file. To start the network installation for MapPoint 2004 North American Maps, double-click the Setup.exe file.
