APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

You move a public folder from Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. When you send an e-mail message to this public folder, the message is not delivered. Additionally, a non-delivery report (NDR) is generated. This problem occurs if the last character of the original public folder name is a square bracket. For example, the original public folder name resembles the following name:

[Name]

CAUSE

This problem occurs because an invalid SMTP proxy address is generated by the Recipient Update Service (RUS) when the last character of the original public folder name is a square bracket.

MORE INFORMATION

If the last character of a public folder name is a square bracket in Exchange Server 5.5, the RUS does not remove this square bracket when you move the public folder to Exchange Server 2003. For example, the e-mail address of a public folder resembles the following address:

string1.[string2]@domain_name.root_domain

After you move this public folder to Exchange Server 2003, the e-mail address of the public folder resembles the following address:

String1string2]@domain_name.root_domain
