SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You use two separate monitors to run a slide show presentation in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003. During the slide show presentation, you try to run another program on the primary monitor. In this scenario, the secondary monitor pauses unexpectedly.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the focus shifts to the other program that is running on the primary monitor. This behavior is by design.
WORKAROUND
Use one of the following methods to work around this behavior.
Method 1: Change the slide show type
If you change the slide show type, you can run the slide show in a separate window on the secondary monitor. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start PowerPoint 2003.
- Open the presentation.
- On the Slide Show menu, click Set Up Show.
- Under Show type, click Browsed by an individual (window).
- Click OK.
- On the Slide Show menu, click View Show.
- If you have to, click Restore down on the PowerPoint window. Then, drag the PowerPoint window to the secondary monitor.
- On the secondary monitor, maximize the PowerPoint window
Method 2: View the file as a single Web archive (.mht) file
You can save the file as a single .mht file. Then, you can view this .mht file in Microsoft Internet Explorer on the secondary monitor. To do this, follow these steps.
- Start PowerPoint 2003.
- Open the presentation.
- On the File menu, click Save as Web Page.
- In the File name box, type an appropriate file name.
- In the Save as type box, click Single file Web page (*.mht; *.mhtml).
- Click Save.
- Open the .mht file in Internet Explorer on the secondary monitor.
