  • Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2007
  • Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006
  • Microsoft Office Small Business Management Edition 2006

SYMPTOMS

In a multiuser workgroup environment in Microsoft Office Accounting Professional or in Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006, when you connect to a company file, you may receive the following message:

User does not have the permissions required to log on to the SBA system

CAUSE

This problem may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  • The Use simple file sharing (Recommended) option is selected on the server.
  • The Windows logon credentials are not identical on each computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one or more of the following methods.

Method 1: Verify that the "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" option is not selected on the server

  1. On the server, click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe, and then click OK.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
  3. In the Folder Options dialog box, click the View tab.
  4. In the Advanced Settings pane, clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) option.
  5. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Note By default, the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) option is selected in Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and in Windows XP Professional Edition. A computer that is running Windows XP Home Edition cannot be used as a server because the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) option cannot be cleared on Windows XP Home Edition.

Method 2: Verify that Windows logon credentials are identical on each computer

Verify that Windows logon credentials are identical on each computer. For example, if a user on the server has the user name of USER1 and the password of PASSWORD on the server, you must to create a user on the client who has the user name of USER1 and the password of PASSWORD.

If you continue to experience this problem after you complete the steps in the "Resolution" section, you may have to contact technical support.

STATUS
