SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You have a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer or a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer. You use an Infrared (IR) connection to transfer data from your computer to a Microsoft Windows 98-based computer. In this scenario, the IR connection may sometimes be refused by the Windows 98-based computer. Additionally, you receive an error message that is similar to the following error message:

The transfer failed. An error occurred while Wireless Link was connecting to the other device. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Windows 98-based computer does not release some resources during the data transfer. After all the resources are used, the Windows 98-based computer refuses the IR connection.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, disconnect and then re-connect the IR connection until the IR connection succeeds.
