SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Windows XP and later versions of Windows, you use booklet mode to print a document that contains an embedded encapsulated PostScript (EPS) graphics file. In this scenario, the file does not print correctly. Additionally, you may receive the following error message on the printout:

ERROR: undefined
OFFENDING COMMAND: pp_clip

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you use a Pscript5.dll-based PostScript printer driver. This driver cannot correctly print an embedded EPS graphics file in booklet mode.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:

• Convert the EPS graphics file to a different format, such as a .bmp or .jpg format, and then insert the new graphics file into your document.
• Use a PostScript printer driver that does not use the Pscript5.dll file. Contact the manufacturer of the printer for more information about a PostScript driver that does not use the Pscript5.dll file. For information about how to contact the manufacturer of the printer, click the appropriate article number in the following list to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

• If you are using Microsoft Word to print the document, use one of following methods to print the file:
  • Set the printing preferences for the document to Flip on Short edge. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. On the File menu, click Print.
    2. Click Properties.
    3. Click the Layout tab, and then click Flip on Short Edge under Print on Both Sides to print on both sides of the paper with pages that are bound on the top edge.
  • Change the page layout to Book fold before you print the document. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. On the File menu, click Page Setup.
    2. Click the Margins tab, click Book fold in the Multiple pages list, and then click OK.
       
       Note You may have to adjust the margins.
• If you are printing from an application, set the printing preferences to 2-up with duplexing enabled. This setting gives the closest match to booklet printing. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Click the Layout tab, and then set the N-up option to 2.
  4. Select the 2-sided print option or the Print on both sides of paper option.

  Notes

  • This method provides the closest match to booklet printing with four logical pages printed on one physical sheet. However, the pages are not arranged in booklet order.
  • The N-Up and 2-sided print options are present in the printer Properties dialog box. They may not be present on the Layout tab.
  • The N-Up option lets you print more than one document page on a single sheet of paper. This option may use a different name in the printer Properties dialog box, depending on the model of printer. For example, this option may be called "Pages per Sheet" or something similar. Regardless of the name of this option, the value of this option should be set to 2.
  • The 2-sided print option lets you print on both sides of a single sheet. This option may use a different name in the printer Properties dialog box, depending on the model of printer. For example, the name for this option may resemble any of the following:
    • Enable duplexing
      Click to select the check box.
    • Print on both sides of paper
      Select the Flip on long edge option.
    • 2 sided printing
      Select the Flip on long edge option.
