SYMPTOMS
When you try to save a file in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, one of the following problems may occur:
- The file may not save with the correct file name.
- The file may save with a file name that is a truncated version of the file name that appears in the Save As dialog box.
You notice this problem when the following conditions are true:
- The file uses the "Content-Disposition: Attachment; filename=" header to force a "Save As" operation by Internet Explorer.
- The file name within the header contains double-byte character sets (DBCS).
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the header length is larger than 256 bytes. Internet Explorer allows for a maximum header length of 256 bytes.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
MORE INFORMATION
After you install the hotfix, there is still a limitation to the length of file names in Internet Explorer. This limitation occurs because of the way that Internet Explorer cache logic operates. After you install this hotfix, a lengthy file name is truncated from the start of the file name. A lengthy file name is no longer replaced with the name of the delivering Web page.
