SYMPTOMS
When the MOM-to-MOM Product Connector in Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 tries to forward alert and discovery information to another MOM management server, you receive the following error message:
Note This problem also occurs when you try to use third-party applications that write data directly to MOM 2005 by using the following methods:
- InsertAlerts()
- InsertEvents()
- InsertPerformanceData()
CAUSE
This problem occurs after you upgrade to Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Windows Server 2003 SP1 introduces security changes that prevent the MOM-to-MOM Product Connector from connecting to other MOM management servers. This problem also occurs after you upgrade to Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2.

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, grant Local Activation permissions to the MOM Service security group on the destination MOM management server. To do this, follow these steps on the destination MOM management server:
- Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Component Services.
- Expand Component Services, expand Computers, expand My Computer, and then expand DCOM Config.
- Right-click {04DD1C17-C6B8-11D2-8D40-0090270D2552}, and then click Properties.
- Click the Security tab.
- Under Launch and Activation Permissions, click Customize, and then click Edit.
- Add the MOM Service local group, click Local Activation, and then click OK two times.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Service Pack 1.
