SYMPTOMS

When you reply to an e-mail message in Microsoft Business Solutions CRM (Microsoft CRM), a corresponding activity is not created in Microsoft CRM.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because you are replying to an e-mail address for a user who is a member of your domain, but that user is not set up as a user in Microsoft CRM.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft CRM has a fix for this problem that is part of a cumulative update. The cumulative update information is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Log on to Microsoft CRM as CRM-user@contoso.com.

    Note The following steps assume that Microsoft CRM is installed in the contoso.com domain.
  2. Follow these steps to create a contact for another domain user who is not a Microsoft CRM user:
    1. Click Create a New Contact.
    2. In the First Name box, type Pilar.
    3. In the Last Name box, type Ackerman.
    4. In the E-mail box, type pilar_ackerman@contoso.com.
    5. On the File menu, click Save and Close.
  3. Follow these steps to create an e-mail activity to the new contact:
    1. Click Create a New E-Mail.
    2. Click the To box.
    3. Select Contact in the Type list, and then click Go.
    4. Select Pilar Ackerman, click Add the selected record, and then click OK.
    5. Click the CC box.
    6. Select Contact in the Type list, and then click Go.
    7. Select a contact whose e-mail address is not in the contoso.com domain. Click Add the selected record, and then click OK.
    8. Click Send.
