APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.1
  • Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.0
  • Microsoft NetMeeting 1.0 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.0 or in Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.1, you may experience one of the following symptoms. These symptoms occur after you do the following:

  1. You click Accept in response to an invitation from a Windows Messenger contact to participate in a Whiteboard session.
  2. Then, you click No when you are prompted to save an existing Whiteboard session.

The symptoms that occur are as follows:

  • If your computer is running Microsoft Windows XP, you receive the following error message:

Windows NetMeeting has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

In this scenario, after you click Send Error Report or Don't Send when you receive the error message, you cannot participate in a Whiteboard session or in an Application Sharing session with the Windows Messenger contact.
  • If your computer is running Microsoft Windows 2000, you receive the following error message:

conf.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.

In this scenario, after you click OK, you cannot participate in a Whiteboard session or in an Application Sharing session with the Windows Messenger contact.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when all the following conditions are true:

  • A Windows Messenger contact (User A) invites you to participate in a Whiteboard session.
  • You click Accept in Windows Messenger to accept the invitation to the Whiteboard session.
  • User A modifies the contents of the Whiteboard window, and then User A clicks Stop Collaboration in Windows Messenger to quit the Whiteboard session.
  • User A clicks No when the following message appears:

Do you want to save your current Whiteboard contents?

  • User A again invites you to participate in a Whiteboard session.
  • You click Accept in Windows Messenger to accept the invitation to the Whiteboard session.
  • You click No when following message appears:

Do you want to save your current Whiteboard contents?

In this scenario, an access violation error occurs in Microsoft Windows NetMeeting.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, both you and User A must sign out of Windows Messenger and then sign in again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NetMeeting.
