SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You use Microsoft Outlook to move Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5 newsgroup data to a Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) virtual server in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. Additionally, the newsgroup data is contained in a personal folder (.pst) file. After you move the newsgroup data, Microsoft Outlook Express users cannot synchronize the newsgroup data from the NNTP virtual server.

Additionally, Outlook Express users may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Subject: subject
Account: account name, Server: server name
Protocol: NNTP, Server
Response: '503 Server Failure.'
Port: 119
Secure(SSL): No
Server Error: 503
Error Number: 0x800CCCA6

Note Error number 0x800CCCA6 indicates that there is no message on the server. For more information about Outlook Express error codes, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
