Event ID 10003 is logged and you cannot use Client Push Installation to install an SMS 2003 Advanced Client

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use Client Push Installation to install a Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003 Advanced Client, the Advanced Client does not install. Additionally, entries that are similar to the following appear in the System log: Event Type: Error
Event ID:10003
Source: DCOM
Event Message: Access denied attempting to launch a DCOM Server using DefaultLaunchPermssion. The server is: {GUID} The user is Unavailable/Unavailable, SID=Unavailable.

If verbose logging is turned on, you may find entries that are similar to the following in the %Windir%\System32\Ccmsetup\Client.msi.log file:

Action 12:06:21: CcmCreateWmiNamespaces. Creating WMI namespaces
CcmCreateWmiNamespaces: CCM
[12:06:22] @@ERR:25100
Error 25100. Setup was unable to create the WMI namespace CCM
The error code is 8004100A
Action ended 12:06:22: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.
Action 12:06:22: Rollback. Rolling back action:
Rollback: Creating WMI namespaces
Rollback: Removing WMI namespaces
Rollback: CIMV2\SMS

CAUSE

This problem occurs when there is a problem with the DCOM permissions on the computer where you want to install the Advanced Client. For example, this problem occurs if the account that is used to install the Advanced Client cannot access DCOM.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, create a new account. Then, configure Client Push Installation to use the new account to install SMS 2003 software. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.
  2. Double-click the node for the account that experiences the problem.
  3. Right-click the account, and then click Copy.
  4. In the Copy Object - User dialog box, type the name and the logon name information for the new account, and then click Next.
  5. Type the password for the new account, click Next, and then click Finish.
  6. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Systems Management Server, and then click SMS Administrator Console.
  7. Double-click Site Database (SiteCode - SiteName), double-click Site Hierarchy, double-click SiteCode-SiteName, and then double-click Site Settings.
  8. Click Client Installation Methods, right-click Client Push Installation, and then click Properties.
  9. On the Accounts tab, right-click anywhere in the Accounts box, and then click New.
  10. Type the name of the account that you created in step 1, type the password for the account, and then click OK.
  11. In the Accounts box, right-click the account that you just added, and then click Up repeatedly until the account appears at the top of the Accounts box.
  12. Click OK.
