Introduction
When you run a query against a SQL Server 2000 database, you may receive incorrect results when SQL Server 2000 uses loop joins in the execution plan. For additional information about a list of all publicly released SQL Server 2000 Post-Service Pack 3a hotfixes, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
810185 SQL Server 2000 hotfix update for SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3 and 3a
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the execution plan that SQL Server 2000 chooses uses a multi-parent spool that has the primary and the secondary spools on the inner side of a nested loop join. The following sample code shows the structure of an execution plan for a query that encounters this problem.
Rows Executes StmtText 0 1 |--Nested Loops(Inner Join, OUTER REFERENCES:([p1].[MEETING_ID1044])) 231 1 |--Outer input table plan (this may vary) 0 231 |--Inner input table plan (this may vary) 0 231 |--Join (Join type may vary) 2 231 |--Primary side of join (this may vary) 101 231 | |--Sort(…) 780 232 | |--Table Spool 0 231 |--Secondary side of join (this may vary) 0 231 |--Sort(…) 780 232 |--Table Spool
